Clove for temporary toothache relief
Clove (laung) has a natural numbing quality. Holding a clove near a sore tooth is a well-known stop-gap until you can see a dentist.

Ingredients
- 1–2 whole cloves
How to prepare
- Soften the clove slightly by holding it in your mouth for a minute.
How to use
- Place the clove between the cheek and the sore tooth and gently press with your teeth to release its oil. Keep it there for 10–15 minutes.
- Use only for temporary relief while you arrange a dental appointment.
Precautions
- Do not apply undiluted clove oil directly to the gums — it can burn tissue. Never give clove oil to children.
- Toothache usually has a cause (decay, infection) that needs a dentist.
- Seek urgent care for facial swelling, fever or difficulty opening the mouth.
