Babool Bark Mouth Rinse
Simmer a small piece of babool bark, cool the water, and rinse the mouth. Spit it out. This rinse is not a treatment for loose teeth or infection.

A cool babool bark rinse to spit out
Babool bark is astringent, which is why older routines used a mild tea of it as a mouthwash. The piece should be small, the simmer short, and the cup cool before it comes near the mouth. You do not chew a large chunk of bark.
Buy bark you can trust. Do not gather unknown thorny trees. Spit the rinse out. A tooth that moves, a gum that swells, or pain at night needs a dentist. Bark water will not pull a loose tooth back into place.
Ingredients
- A small piece of babool bark, about 2 centimetres
- 2 cups water
- Extra cool water if the babool rinse is still warm after straining
How to prepare
- Rinse the babool bark and simmer it in water for about 10 minutes.
- Strain, cool until the rinse feels cool or barely warm, and throw the bark away.
How to use
- Swish one mouthful and spit it out. Do not swallow.
- A second swish is enough. Do not sit with it in the mouth.
- Use a fresh batch. Do not keep bark water for the next day.
Helpful habits
- A cool rinse is the point. Hot bark water can burn.
- If the taste is extremely harsh, dilute it rather than simmering longer.
Precautions
- Spit the babool rinse out. Do not drink it.
- Stop if the mouth feels very dry, sore, or unpleasantly tight.
- It does not treat loose teeth, an abscess, or bleeding that continues.
