Diluted Amla Mouth Rinse

Mix a little fresh amla juice into a full cup of water, swish briefly, and spit it out. Do not hold this rinse on the enamel. It is not a tooth treatment.

A small bowl of very pale diluted amla water next to one cut amla and a glass of plain water on a wooden board.

A dilute amla rinse, not held on enamel

Amla is sour. Acid sitting on teeth is why this rinse is heavily diluted and brief. A few seconds of swishing is the method. Holding it, swishing for minutes, or using undiluted juice is hard on enamel.

Spit it out and then rinse with plain water. Do not brush hard straight after an acidic rinse. Wait a while. Sensitivity, cavities, and bleeding still belong with a dentist, not with more amla.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon fresh amla juice
  • 1 full cup of water to dilute the amla
  • A second cup of plain water for the rinse that follows

How to prepare

  1. Stir the teaspoon of amla juice into a full cup of water so the mix looks very pale.
  2. Do not use undiluted juice, and discard any mix you do not use the same day.

How to use

  • Swish for a few seconds only, then spit it out. Do not hold it on the enamel.
  • Rinse again with plain water and spit that out too.
  • Use it occasionally, not as a long sour bath for the teeth.

Helpful habits

  • If the cup still tastes sharply sour, add more water before it touches the mouth.
  • Fresh juice is what this page describes. Any powder should be just as dilute, and still spat out.

Precautions

  • Keep the amla rinse dilute, and do not hold it on the enamel.
  • Spit it out. Do not swallow this cup as a vitamin dose.
  • Stop if teeth feel sensitive. It does not cure cavities or gum disease.
