A Warm Cooked Breakfast

Breakfast is a warm cooked plate such as poha, upma, or a moong chilla, with a little cumin and ginger, instead of only cold leftovers.

Poha, upma, or moong chilla, eaten warm

A warm cooked breakfast means something you heat through in the morning: poha with cumin, upma, or a moong chilla with a little ginger. The plate is ordinary food, eaten warm, not a cleanse and not a reason to skip lunch. Cold leftovers are not forbidden forever, but this habit prefers a meal that was just cooked or properly reheated.

Keep the ginger mild and the oil only enough for the pan. This does not cause weight loss and does not treat digestion, diabetes, or weakness. Rice, dal, or poha that smells sour should be thrown away, not revived with spices.

Ingredients

  • Flattened rice, suji, or soaked moong, for poha, upma, or chilla
  • A pinch of cumin
  • A little fresh ginger
  • A spoon of oil or ghee for the pan

How to prepare

  1. Choose one dish: poha, upma, or a moong chilla. Rinse or soak as that dish needs.
  2. Cook it fresh with cumin and a little ginger, using only enough fat for the pan.

How to use

  • Eat the plate warm in the morning.
  • Let it stand in for a breakfast that would have been only cold leftovers.
  • A modest plate is enough. Lunch still has its place.

Helpful habits

  • If leftovers are all you have, reheat them until steaming rather than eating them cold.
  • Keep the ginger mild on days the stomach feels sensitive.

Precautions

  • This is a breakfast habit, not a cleanse and not a cure for digestion or weight.
  • Do not eat rice, dal, or a cooked dish that smells off. Reheat what is still good until it is hot.
  • A large oily plate is not required. This does not replace medical care.
