Ajwain and rock salt soak for tired feet
Ajwain and rock salt stirred into a tub of warm water make a short soak for feet that ache after standing. The water is for the feet only, and it should feel warm rather than hot.

A warm ajwain foot tub after a long day
Standing at work or walking on hard floors leaves the feet heavy by evening. A basin of warm water with ajwain and rock salt is a simple way to sit down and let them rest.
This is a soak, not a medicinal bath and not something to sip. Dry the feet well afterwards so you do not slip, and skip the tub if you have cuts or cannot feel heat properly on the skin.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon ajwain seeds
- 1 tablespoon rock salt
- A basin of warm water that covers the ankles
How to prepare
- Crush the ajwain seeds lightly so they release their smell into the water.
- Stir the ajwain seeds and rock salt into the warm water until the salt dissolves.
How to use
- Sit safely and soak both feet for 10 minutes. Add no boiling water while your feet are in the tub.
- Lift the feet out, pat them fully dry, including between the toes.
- If the skin feels tight, a drop of plain oil afterwards is enough. Do not drink the soak water.
Helpful habits
- Keep a towel and a chair ready so you are not walking wet across the floor.
- Evening is a good time, after you are done standing for the day.
Precautions
- Do not soak feet with cuts, athlete's foot cracks that are open, or a fresh wound.
- The water must be warm, not scalding. If you do not sense heat well, skip hot soaks.
- This basin is not a drink. Throw the water away. Pain, swelling or numbness that stays needs a doctor.
Frequently asked questions
Can I reuse the ajwain foot water?
- No. Use it once and discard it. Do not sip it or save it for the next day.
Is rock salt better than table salt here?
- Rock salt is the usual choice for this soak. Ordinary salt can stand in if rock salt is not at home.
How hot should the foot tub be?
- Warm enough to feel soothing on the wrist. If you cannot hold a finger in it comfortably, it is too hot.
