Aloe vera and coconut milk mask for dry, frizzy hair
Rough, frizzy hair that tangles easily needs moisture more than anything. A mask of fresh aloe vera gel and coconut milk softens the lengths and leaves hair easier to comb.

The Ayurvedic view
Dry, frizzy, split-prone hair is a vata picture in Ayurveda — rough and light, made worse by hot water, sun, blow-drying and dry winds. Coconut is cooling and nourishing, and fresh coconut milk has natural fats that coat and smooth the hair shaft. Aloe vera (ghritkumari) adds a light, slippery moisture. Together they make a gentle, kitchen-fresh conditioner.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons fresh coconut milk (from grated coconut, or unsweetened packaged)
- 2 tablespoons fresh aloe vera gel, scooped from a washed leaf
- 1 teaspoon coconut or olive oil (optional, for very dry hair)
How to prepare
- Blend the aloe gel briefly so it's smooth, then stir in the coconut milk and oil.
How to use
- Apply to damp hair from mid-length to ends, and a little to the scalp if it's dry.
- Cover with a shower cap for 30 minutes.
- Rinse with lukewarm water and a mild shampoo; you may not need conditioner. Use once a week.
Helpful habits
- Wash with lukewarm, not hot, water and pat hair dry with a cotton T-shirt instead of rubbing with a towel.
- Trim split ends every 2–3 months — no mask can mend them.
- Use a wide-tooth comb on damp hair and limit heat tools.
Precautions
- Use only the clear inner gel of aloe; the yellow sap near the skin can irritate. Patch-test first.
- Rinse thoroughly — coconut milk left in hair can smell sour.
- Coconut milk spoils quickly; make it fresh each time.
