Curd, besan and tomato pack for sun tan
After a holiday or a summer of commuting, a cooling pack of curd, gram flour and a little tomato pulp is a gentle kitchen way to freshen tanned, dull skin.

The Ayurvedic view
Tan is the skin's own protection against the sun: it produces more pigment to shield itself. It fades naturally as skin renews, and the best a home pack can do is support that — gently exfoliating dead cells and soothing heat. Ayurveda would call sun-exposed, hot, inflamed skin a pitta state, so cooling ingredients like curd are preferred over harsh scrubs or undiluted lemon, which can irritate and even darken skin.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons fresh plain curd
- 1 tablespoon besan (gram flour)
- 1 tablespoon fresh tomato pulp (or 1 teaspoon aloe vera gel for sensitive skin)
- A pinch of turmeric (optional)
How to prepare
- Mix everything into a smooth, spreadable paste — add a little more curd if it's too thick.
How to use
- Apply on clean face, neck, arms or feet; avoid the eye area.
- Leave for 15 minutes, until nearly dry but not cracking.
- Wet your hands and massage gently in small circles as you rinse off. Use two or three times a week.
Helpful habits
- Prevention is the real remedy: use a broad-spectrum sunscreen, a hat or dupatta and avoid peak sun between 11 am and 3 pm.
- Drink water and eat cooling fruits like watermelon, cucumber and amla in summer.
Precautions
- Tomato can sting sensitive or broken skin — replace it with aloe vera gel if needed, and patch-test first.
- Don't use on sunburn that is blistered, peeling or very painful; cool it and see a doctor if severe.
- New or changing dark patches, moles that change shape or colour, or patches that don't fade should be checked by a dermatologist.
