Fresh aloe vera gel for sun-tired skin

Aloe (ghritkumari) is cooling and calming. Fresh gel from a home plant is a simple way to soothe skin that feels hot and tight after time in the sun.

Illustrated still life with aloe vera, rose water.

Ingredients

  • 1 fresh aloe vera leaf from a home plant
  • A few drops of rose water (optional)

How to prepare

  1. Cut a mature leaf at the base and stand it upright for 10 minutes to let the yellow sap drain away.
  2. Wash, slice off the spiky edges and peel away the green skin.
  3. Scoop out the clear gel and blend or mash it smooth. Add rose water if you like.

How to use

  • Apply a thin layer to the affected skin and let it dry. Rinse after 20 minutes or leave on.
  • Store leftover gel in the fridge for 2–3 days.

Precautions

  • Always patch test first; some people are sensitive to aloe.
  • Do not use the yellow sap (latex) — it irritates skin and should never be swallowed.
  • Blistering, severe or widespread sunburn, fever or chills need medical care.
