Mild Curry Leaf Tea

A small handful of curry leaves is simmered into a mild tea and sipped warm. It is a kitchen cup, not a treatment for sugar, hair, or weight.

A handful of fresh green curry leaves beside a pale cup of tea and a small steel strainer on a wooden board.

A mild tea of fresh curry leaves

Curry leaves from the tadka tin can also make a mild tea. A small handful is rinsed and simmered, then strained. The cup smells like the leaf, not like a strong decoction. People drink it as a change from plain hot water. It does not treat diabetes, hair loss, weight, or blood pressure.

Keep the simmer short so the tea stays light. Do not drink several cups to chase a health claim you heard elsewhere. If you are pregnant or on regular medicine, ask a doctor before a herbal cup becomes daily. An upset stomach is a reason to stop.

Ingredients

  • A small handful of fresh curry leaves
  • 1 cup water
  • A strainer

How to prepare

  1. Rinse the curry leaves and simmer them in a cup of water for about five minutes.
  2. Strain into a cup and let it cool until it is pleasant to sip.

How to use

  • Sip one small mild cup.
  • Once in a day is plenty. Do not line up refills.
  • Treat it as a warm drink, not as medicine.

Helpful habits

  • Fresh leaves taste cleaner than leaves that have blackened in the box.
  • A softer cup is fine. You do not need to boil the leaves down hard.

Precautions

  • This tea does not treat diabetes, hair loss, weight, or blood pressure.
  • One mild cup is enough. A long boil of a large handful is stronger than intended.
  • Ask a doctor in pregnancy or if you take daily medicine. Stop if the stomach objects.
