Jeera (cumin) water to start the day

Cumin is one of Ayurveda's favourite digestive spices. Water boiled with cumin seeds is a light, pleasant morning drink that fits well into a balanced routine for healthy weight.

Illustrated still life with cumin seeds, ice.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1½ cups water

How to prepare

  1. Soak the cumin in the water overnight (optional, gives a stronger flavour).
  2. In the morning, boil for 5 minutes, strain and let it cool to a comfortable warmth.

How to use

  • Sip on an empty stomach in the morning, and pair it with regular meals, plenty of vegetables and a daily walk.

Precautions

  • Generally safe in food amounts. Pregnant women should check with their doctor before taking it daily.
  • People on diabetes medicine should monitor their sugar, as cumin may slightly lower it.
  • Healthy weight change is slow — be wary of any product promising rapid weight loss.
