Roasted Garlic Clove with Dal

One garlic clove roasted in a little ghee until soft is eaten with dal. It is not raw garlic, and it is not something to chew on an empty stomach.

One soft golden garlic clove in a small tadka pan of ghee, next to a bowl of yellow dal on a kitchen stove.

One roasted garlic clove with dal

A single garlic clove dropped into the tadka softens in ghee and loses the sharp bite of raw garlic. Eaten with a serving of dal, it is ordinary food. Kitchens sometimes keep this habit in the season, but one clove does not promise fewer infections.

Raw garlic on an empty stomach is a different and harsher thing. Skip that. If garlic repeats, burns, or you are due for surgery or on blood-thinning medicine, ask a doctor before making it a daily clove.

Ingredients

  • 1 garlic clove, peeled
  • A few drops of ghee for the tadka
  • A serving of cooked dal to eat it with

How to prepare

  1. Warm a few drops of ghee in a small tadka pan.
  2. Roast one garlic clove until it is soft and lightly golden, then eat it with dal.

How to use

  • Eat the one roasted clove with a meal, not by itself.
  • Do not chew raw garlic on an empty stomach instead.
  • One clove is the amount. Do not line up several cloves.

Helpful habits

  • Soft and pale gold is enough. A black burnt clove tastes bitter.
  • A little dal on the same spoon makes the clove easier to eat.

Precautions

  • Do not eat this raw, and do not take it on an empty stomach.
  • Stop if garlic causes burning, bloating, or a strong repeat taste.
  • Ask a doctor first if you take blood-thinning medicine or have a procedure coming up.
