Ginger juice and honey for a tickly cough
A spoonful of fresh ginger juice mixed with honey is a time-honoured way to soothe an irritated throat and a dry, tickly cough.

Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger juice (grate ginger and squeeze through a cloth)
- 1 teaspoon honey
- A tiny pinch of black pepper or turmeric (optional)
How to prepare
- Grate fresh ginger and squeeze out the juice.
- Mix the juice with honey (and pepper or turmeric, if using) at room temperature.
How to use
- Lick slowly from the spoon 2–3 times a day, not immediately followed by water.
Precautions
- Never give honey to babies under 1 year old.
- People with diabetes should check with their doctor before taking honey regularly.
- A cough lasting more than 2 weeks, cough with blood, high fever, wheezing or breathlessness needs medical attention.
