Warm methi poultice in a cloth for stiff joints
Soaked fenugreek seeds, crushed and warmed inside a cloth, make a short poultice for a joint that feels stiff. The paste touches the skin only through the cloth and is not used on broken skin.

A warm fenugreek cloth for stiffness
Methi is a daily seed in Indian kitchens. Soaked overnight, it softens enough to crush into a warm pack for a knee, ankle or shoulder that feels wooden in cold weather.
The poultice is external comfort, not a plaster to sleep in. Whole seeds are sharp, so they must be crushed. Keep it off cuts, rashes and any joint that is hot after an injury.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons fenugreek seeds, soaked
- A clean cotton cloth
- A spoon of the soaking water to loosen the crush
How to prepare
- Soak the fenugreek seeds in water for a few hours, then drain and crush them to a coarse paste.
- Spread the paste in the cloth, fold a flat packet, and warm it until it feels gentle on the wrist.
How to use
- Lay the warm packet on the stiff joint for about 8 minutes.
- Check the skin once in between. The cloth should stay between the paste and the skin.
- Lift the packet, wipe the area dry, and wash the cloth the same day.
Helpful habits
- Soak the seeds in the morning if you want the poultice in the evening.
- A mustard-seed size test on the inner arm tells you if your skin dislikes methi.
Precautions
- Do not put this poultice on broken skin, eczema or a fresh scrape.
- The pack is external only. Do not use the crushed paste as an eye or face pack.
- Stop if the skin itches or burns. A joint that swells after a twist needs a doctor, not heat.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use methi powder instead of soaked seeds?
- Soaked whole fenugreek seeds crush into a softer packet. Powder can clump and feel harsher, so the soaked seed is the better choice.
Will the poultice stain the skin?
- A yellow tint can sit for a short while. It should wash off. Stop if the skin stays red or itchy.
How often can I use a methi joint pack?
- Once on a stiff day is plenty. Do not stack several hot packs on the same skin.
