Child's Pose with a Pillow on Period Days

Resting forward on folded knees with a pillow under the chest for a few slow breaths. A gentle stretch for comfort; skip with knee pain or in pregnancy.

A cream bolster and a small cushion on a yoga mat with folded blankets and a glass of warm drink.

Important: this remedy is only a supportive home measure. Keep taking any medicine your doctor has prescribed, monitor your readings, and consult your doctor before adding anything new.

A supported rest

Child's pose (balasana) is a resting yoga pose in which you kneel and fold forward. A pillow or bolster under the chest makes it supportive and lets the lower back and hips relax, which some people find comforting on period days.

Kneel, let the knees open slightly, rest the chest on the pillow, turn your head to one side and breathe slowly for a minute or two. This is a comfort stretch and not a treatment for period pain.
