Amla Powder and Curd Pack for Dull Hair
Amla powder mixed with curd and a little honey as a 20-minute hair pack for dull, rough lengths. Every two weeks.

Using amla sensibly at home
Amla, the Indian gooseberry, is sour, astringent and rich in vitamin C. Ayurveda calls it cooling and uses it in chyawanprash, triphala, murabba and hair oils.
Amla is a traditional hair tonic and curd softens; together they make a simple pack for hair that looks dull from sun, hard water or heat styling.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp amla powder
- 4 tbsp plain curd
- 1 tsp honey
How to prepare
- Mix into a smooth paste; rest for 10 minutes.
How to use
- Apply mainly to the lengths and a little to the scalp; leave 20 minutes.
- Rinse well and shampoo lightly. Every two weeks.
Helpful habits
- Buy firm, pale-green amla in winter and freeze or dry some for later.
Precautions
- Amla can feel drying on very dry hair; add a spoon of oil to the pack if so.
- Very sour; on an empty stomach it can trigger acidity in some people.
- Patch-test behind the ear first; skip on broken or inflamed scalp.
- Stop if you notice itching, rash, stomach upset or any other discomfort.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use fresh amla?
- Yes, grate and blend one amla with the curd.
Does it lighten henna?
- It can deepen henna colour slightly.
Is amla powder as good as fresh amla?
- Powder is convenient; fresh fruit has more vitamin C.
