Important: this remedy is only a supportive home measure. Keep taking any medicine your doctor has prescribed, monitor your readings, and consult your doctor before adding anything new.

Guggul in everyday Indian homes

Guggul is a gum resin from the Commiphora tree, used in classical Ayurvedic formulas such as yogaraj and triphala guggulu. It is a medicine-strength herb, usually taken as prepared tablets under a vaidya's guidance, not a kitchen ingredient.

Guggulu formulas such as Yograj guggulu and Simhanad guggulu are classical Ayurvedic medicines for sandhivata, roughly osteoarthritis, and amavata. Some small studies of guggul and boswellia combinations reported less knee pain, but quality varies and guggul can interact with medicines.
