A Pinch of Neem in a Besan Dab

A pinch of neem leaf powder mixed with a little besan and water, dabbed on one spot, then rinsed. Patch test first. It is not for broken skin and it does not cure acne.

Bowls of green and pale powders and a green paste, with neem leaves and a dropper.

A dab, not a mask of the whole face

Mix a pinch of dried neem leaf powder with a teaspoon of besan and a few drops of water. Dab it on one spot that is not open or bleeding. Leave it for a few minutes and rinse before it cracks. This is not a full-face mask and not a cure for acne, a boil, or an infection. Neem is bitter and can sting.

Patch test on the inner arm a day before. Do not use it near the eyes, in the nose, or on the lips. Do not use essential oil of neem. If the spot spreads, becomes hot, or you have fever, see a doctor. Squeezing the spot is not part of the remedy.

Ingredients

  • A pinch of neem leaf powder
  • One teaspoon of besan
  • A few drops of water

How to prepare

  1. Mix the pinch of neem with besan and water into a soft dab, not a dry crust.
  2. Patch test on the inner arm before it ever goes on the face.

How to use

  • Dab one intact spot. Leave for a few minutes.
  • Rinse off. Do not let it dry and crack.
  • Stop if it stings, and do not repeat that day.

Helpful habits

  • A pinch is the amount you can pick up once. A spoon of neem powder is too much.
  • Fresh neem leaves ground into a harsh paste are not this dab.

Precautions

  • Patch test. Keep it out of the eyes.
  • Not on broken, bleeding, or infected skin.
  • Not a cure for acne. A spreading hot spot or a fever needs a doctor.

Frequently asked questions

Can I cover my whole face in neem every night?

No. This is a pinch, on one spot, not a nightly full-face mask.

Can I use neem oil instead of the powder?

Not on this page. Essential oil is stronger and easier to irritate skin with. This dab is a pinch of leaf powder in besan.

The spot is hot and I have a fever. Should I add more neem?

No. Stop and see a doctor. A hot spreading spot with fever is not a kitchen dab.
