Saunf, Badam and Mishri Powder with Warm Milk

A traditional powder of fennel, almond and mishri, a spoon in warm milk at night. Food, not a sight treatment.

A bowl of fine beige powder beside a glass of milk, with almonds, fennel seeds and mishri crystals.

A family powder, kept in its place

Saunf, badam and mishri powder is an old household mixture, often given to students and older family members with warm milk. Fennel is aromatic, almonds supply vitamin E and mishri is a mild sweetener. It is a food habit, and there is no reliable proof that it improves eyesight or replaces glasses.

Grind equal parts of fennel and almonds with mishri to a coarse powder and store in a dry jar. Take one teaspoon in a glass of warm milk. Skip it with nut allergy, and keep the portion small if you manage blood sugar. Vision changes, eye pain or blurred sight need an eye exam.
