Amla and Honey Throat Soother for Winter

A spoon of grated fresh amla mixed with honey and a pinch of black pepper, taken once a day during winter colds.

Illustrated still life with amla, honey, black pepper.

Amla in everyday Indian homes

Amla, the Indian gooseberry, is sour, astringent and rich in vitamin C. Ayurveda calls it cooling and uses it in chyawanprash, triphala, murabba and hair oils.

Amla brings vitamin C and honey soothes the throat. A pinch of pepper adds warmth. It is a pleasant, food-based way to comfort a winter throat.
