Ashwagandha Milk with Ghee During Recovery

A small dose of ashwagandha simmered in milk with a drop of ghee, a traditional recovery drink after an illness, only with your doctor's okay.

Illustrated still life with ashwagandha root, cardamom.

Important: this remedy is only a supportive home measure. Keep taking any medicine your doctor has prescribed, monitor your readings, and consult your doctor before adding anything new.

Using ashwagandha sensibly at home

Ashwagandha is a root that Ayurveda places among rasayanas, herbs taken to support strength and calm. Some small studies suggest it may help with stress and sleep, but it is a real herb with real side effects, not a daily vitamin.

Ayurveda uses ashwagandha as a rasayana during convalescence, when appetite and strength are low after fever or illness. Food, rest and gradual activity come first. Ask your doctor before adding a herb, especially if you are on any medicines.

  • ¼ to ½ tsp ashwagandha root powder
