Sunscreen and a Wide Hat Before Stepping Out
A broad-spectrum sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat as the dull-skin remedy that works. Not a kitchen mix, but the base for everything else.

The base before every mask
Most tan, dullness and dark patches are made worse by the sun, and no face pack can undo daily sun exposure. A broad-spectrum sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat protect the skin on the days you step out. This is the least glamorous and the most effective habit on this site.
Apply sunscreen as the last step of the morning routine, in a generous amount, and reapply every two to three hours outdoors. Check the pack for SPF 30 or more. If you get a rash or stinging, switch to another brand, and see a dermatologist for persistent patches.
