Shilajit with gokshura (tribulus): traditional pairing and cautions
Why gokshura (tribulus) is paired with shilajit in traditional formulas, what research says about tribulus, and how to take them safely.

Published 7 October 2026 · 3 min read
Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris) is a spiky fruit used in Ayurveda for strength and the urinary system. It is a common partner for shilajit in men's formulas and gym supplements.
Traditional use
Gokshura is described as balya (strength-giving), vrishya (supporting virility) and mutrala (supporting urine flow). In classical formulas it is often combined with shilajit and ashwagandha.
What research says
Tribulus is widely sold as a "testosterone booster", but most good human studies have not found that it raises testosterone in healthy men. Some small studies suggest it may support libido. Evidence for the shilajit-gokshura combination specifically is lacking.
How to take them together
- Gokshura powder: ½–1 teaspoon (about 3 g) once a day, or as per label for extract capsules
- Shilajit: rice-grain to pea-sized (300–500 mg)
- Stir the gokshura powder into warm water or milk, then dissolve the shilajit.
- Take after breakfast for a few weeks at a time.
Cautions
- Kidney disease, kidney stones or on diuretics: ask a doctor first.
- Diabetes or BP medicines: both herbs may add effects.
- Prostate problems or hormone therapy: check with a doctor.
- Avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
How to take shilajit (general guide)
- Take a rice-grain to pea-sized piece of resin (about 300–500 mg) once a day, or follow your label dose.
- Dissolve it in a cup of warm (not boiling) water or milk and stir for a minute or two.
- Most people take it in the morning, after a light breakfast.
- Start low in the first week and stop if it does not suit you.
- Always use a clean, dry spoon so moisture does not get into the jar.
